Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious trophy on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
